In memory of Grandma J

My Grandma Jorgensen passed away yesterday afternoon June 23, 2013, and I wanted to share some of my favorite memories of her.

My family was very blessed to only live a few miles away from Grandma J. We spend a lot of summer days over at Grandma’s house playing Chinese Checkers and Scrabble. It was always a big deal when you beat Grandma because she was a master at both. We also went on lots of adventures exploring the farmland, playing in the barn, and taking walks on the ditch bank behind her house. You also never went hungry at Grandma’s house. Grandma had wicked fast cooking skills.

Our family was also very lucky to have Grandma spend just about every Christmas morning with us. She would usually buy us each a couple little gifts from the dollar store and it was always exciting to see what Grandma was going to get you because they were usually very unexpected. I think one year Kurt got a big jar of pickles because Kurt was always eating pickles. hahaha.

Our family also got to take Grandma on quite a few family vacations. One year we went to Zion’s National Park and Grandma decided to wait in the car while we went on a short hike. Well, I guess Grandma got a little impatient because when we got back to the car Grandma was gone. We all panicked a little but decided she couldn’t have gotten very far. We soon found her, she had gone off and made friends with a park ranger.

But by far, my favorite memories with Grandma would have to be the summer I decided to start having scrapbooking nights with Grandma once a week. It was nice having one on one time with her and she would say the funniest things. One night she spent telling me funny dating stories about Grandpa and giving me dating advice. My favorite advice she gave me was, “Just wink at them and smile real big and they’ll ask you out.” And you know what, it works. haha. Another night we spent listening to a mixed CD I made of pop music and Grandma’s critiques of the songs were quite hilarious. Usually rated according to how easy they were to dance to. haha.

I also got to enjoy being in the same ward at church with Grandma. After her hearing got worse, she didn’t really like going to Sunday School because she couldn’t understand what they were saying, so sometimes I would sit on a couch in the foyer with her. One Sunday was very entertaining as she spent the entire time pretended to trip people with her cane as they walked by. hahaha.

Grandma J will always have a very special place in my heart and I will treasure the many hours spent with her and the love she showed me.

Here are some pictures I have taken of Grandma over the last couple of years.

Temple Square

Just some photos I took of Temple Square after work on Friday. What a beautiful place.

Antique Shopping in Salt Lake

My friend Natasha (aka Sunshine) and I decided to go antique store shopping on our day off and here are some images from our adventure.

We spent most of our time at Euro Treasures in Salt Lake City. This store is HUGE!! We didn’t have nearly enough time to explore and see everything they had, but here are some pictures from it. And go check it out for yourself! (470 West 600 South)

The other day when I was over visiting my sister, I was sitting on the couch and heard my niece Cambria (3 yrs) and nephew Henrik (5 yrs) up to something in the bathroom. So I go to see what’s going on and the first thing Henrik says to me is, “Can you get my hair to stay like this?” They were putting water in their hair and styling it into what they thought looked super good. And of course I am more than willing to help them in their creative processes, so I quickly agreed to Henrik’s request by applying gel and hairspray. Then, of course Cambria wanted the same thing done to hers, so I did hers as well. hahaha. I love those kids. And obviously they were more than willing to do a photo shoot of their hairdos.

And here are the amazing results:

Look-alike Photo Shoot

So, when I was home in Idaho last weekend, I was talking to my mom and she was saying that ever since she had to get glasses people have been telling her she looks like Sarah Palin. Well, in that moment, I had the brilliant idea to do a Sarah Palin look alike photo shoot with my mom. And luckily when I suggested it to my mom she was all on board. My mom is so great. And here are the results:

The Metro Building

A couple weeks ago at work we got moved from the Metro building to the Church Office Building so we decided to go through and take a few last photos of the building before it gets torn down in a few months. Most of them were taken from a blocked off section of the building that hasn’t been in use for years. So, if it’s blocked off, you may be wondering how we got to it? Well, it took some effort, but we managed it. We had to go down to the lower level basement, through the rooms with water pipes and power breakers, through a secret (not so secret) side door and back up 4 flights of stairs and through another door. Impressed? Well, you should be. Worth it. And here are the photos. And I did a double exposures on some of them to make them seem extra creepy.

Super Hero Birthday Party

Happy 5th birthday to my charming little nephew Henrik!! I seriously love that kid, he’s pretty much my best friend. Anyway, here is the party my sister (his mom) and I put together for him. Henrik picked a theme, I came up with the original design, and then we based the decorations and food around that. I think we pulled off a good party and the kids really seemed to love the theme and activities. What a fun time!

Oh, and ps, I just want to brag for a second and say that I made all the capes for the kids after only owning a sewing machine for a couple of weeks. Pretty good for a beginner. I am super impressed with myself. haha
